Lachaqui es el pueblo de mi abuela materna.Significó en mi niñez el motivo de muchas historias, cuentos, anécdotas y recuerdos de la mujer que me cuidaba, la Mamita Regi (hermana de mi abuela), quien narraba con emoción cómo era su vida allá... antes de que viniera a vivir a Lima.
Las historias lachaquinas crecieron conmigo, me acompañaron durante mi niñez y están presentes aún ahora.
En un texto de Hector Fuertes Baldeón encontré información interesantísima sobre Lachaqui. Por ejemplo, que el nombre proviene de dos palabras: Cala, que significa "descalzo", y Chaqui, que significa "pie". Juntándolas tendríamos "Pie descalzo". Sobre su ubicación, que se llega a Lachaqui desde Canta pasando por otros distritos como Pariamarca y Carhua. 
De Lima está aproximadamente a 5 horas y el pasaje en la Empresa de Transportes "Santa Rosita de Quives" (Lima: Av. Gerardo Unger #367 Ingeniería, frente a la UNI, Teléfono: 3818004; Canta: Av. 26 de Junio #403, Teléfono: 3352937)está 15 soles. Recomiendo llevar mentól, coca para chacchar/tomar y un par de tabletas de Coramina, por si la altura hace de las suyas.Estas son algunas imagenes de mi primer viaje a Lachaqui, que coincidió con la festividad religiosa en honor a San Francisco de Asís (los 03 y 04 de octubre de cada año). Este año, los mayordomos fueron el señor Juan Velazco Molina y la señora Luisa Vilcapoma Chirre de Velazco.

Por cierto, debo agregar que tanto en Lachaqui como en muchos otros lugares del Perú, en las corridas de toros NO SE MATA AL ANIMAL, sólo se le capea. Claro, esto no quita que el espectáculo sea muy cuestionable, pero ese es ya otro rollo.
